Day 86: Continuing Education on Healthy Fats and Adjusting to Rainy Day Routines

An appetizing Cobb salad arranged in neat rows on a bed of fresh lettuce, featuring ingredients rich in healthy fats. This includes diced grilled chicken, halves of boiled eggs, creamy slices of ripe avocado, and blue cheese crumbles. The vibrant dish is enhanced with sliced cherry tomatoes and garnished with chopped chives. A side of creamy blue cheese dressing adds extra flavor. The salad is presented on a white ceramic plate on a rustic wooden table, bathed in natural light, emphasizing the freshness and colors of the ingredients.

Plant Care on a Rainy Day

Despite the rain, I ensured my plants still got the benefits of fresh air by moving them outside this morning and back inside before it got too chilly. This careful management helps them thrive even during unpredictable weather. My dog who doesn't like getting wet from rain watched me from the backdoor staying nice and dry instead of coming with me to the greenhouse as she normally does.

My dog is loves water from sprinklers, hoses, puddles on trails, lakes, etc. but really doesn't like the rain. I have to bribe her with treats to go out in the backyard and even with the raincoat walks can be a challenge sometimes and today was no different.

Staying Fit with Resistance Bands and Treadmill

Today's workout was a continuation of my routine using resistance bands and the treadmill. Despite the rainy weather outside, I appreciated having the treadmill to maintain my fitness regimen comfortably indoors.

In today's workout session, I increased the resistance for my Single-Arm Half-Kneeling Band Row, a testament to my growing strength and ability to adapt my exercises to suit my daily performance. However, during the last 15 minutes on the treadmill, I experienced significant pain likely related to my PCOS, which occasionally impacts my exercise routine and had to lower the incline compared to other days.

For more insight into how PCOS affects my fitness journey, you can read about here. This ongoing adjustment process is both challenging and rewarding as I continue to navigate my health and fitness goals.

All Kinds of Fats

Focus on Healthy Fats

Today's nutrition lesson expanded on the importance of integrating healthy fats into our diet. Healthy fats like those found in olives, nuts, seeds, and certain oils are not only essential for our brain, eyes, and cellular health but also help in hormone regulation and vitamin absorption. We learned the characteristics that make fats healthy, such as being naturally occurring and minimally processed. I appreciate that Precision Nutrition takes the time to explain why they are making certain recommendations instead of just saying eat this not that.

The Challenge of Unhealthy Fats

The lesson also addressed the types of fats to consume less often, such as trans fats and industrially processed vegetable oils, which can increase inflammation and the risk of chronic diseases. These fats are often found in processed foods, including store-bought salad dressings and snacks, which I am particularly fond of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. This prompted me to think about looking for or making healthier dressing options as part of integrating better fat sources into my diet.

Adjusting Dietary Choices

Reflecting on my dietary habits, I considered how to balance enjoying the foods I love, like salad dressings, with making healthier choices. This includes experimenting with different sources of healthy fats and being mindful of portion sizes, especially since fats are calorie-dense.

Today was a blend of managing practical daily routines and deepening my understanding of nutrition, reminding me of the continuous journey towards healthier living, rain or shine.

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
