Welcome to My Personal Holistic Wellness Journey

This vibrant image is a beautiful tapestry of wellness and vitality. It portrays a graceful, silhouetted figure of a woman in a dance-like pose, which is seamlessly integrated into a rich background symbolizing a healthy lifestyle. The woman is surrounded by an abundance of fruits like apples, lemons, limes, and grapes, and a goblet of wine, alluding to a balanced diet rich in natural foods. Waves and leafy swirls emanate from her, intertwining with the foliage and creating a dynamic flow throughout the composition. In the background, active figures can be seen engaged in various forms of exercise such as running and swimming, emphasizing the importance of physical activity. The top half of the artwork is washed in a soothing gradient of greens and blues, suggesting a calm and peaceful environment, while the bottom half bursts with the bright colors of fresh produce. This artwork captures the essence of a harmonious and holistic approach to health, combining nutrition, physical activity, and inner peace.

Embracing 2024: The Year of Me

Hello and welcome to My Precision Nutrition Journey, a lifelong adventure that begins anew in 2024. As I approach the milestone of my 49th year, I am committing to making this year the starting point of a transformative journey that extends far beyond. This blog is more than just a chronicle of nutrition and health; it's a deeply personal narrative of my experiences, struggles, and triumphs. I hope that you will join me as I navigate this path of transformation, health, and self-discovery, not just for a year, but for a lifetime.

A Glimpse Into My World

I'm Jacqui, a soon-to-be 49-year-old, happily married, and a proud parent of a brilliant 20-year-old son who is currently navigating the world of university. Our home is a bustling hub of love and activity, shared with our adorable dog, two mischievous cats, and the heart of our family, my mum.

I'm fortunate that I am able to work from home as an IBCLC, or as most people know it as a lactation consultant, helping thousands families all over the world through virtual consultations as well as my website through articles and have been certified since 2011.

My Health Journey

Living with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) has been a rollercoaster of challenges and learning experiences and just last year, I had my gallbladder removed last year, adding even more to navigate in terms of what I can ate. These conditions have not only shaped my health journey but also taught me the importance of listening to my body.

This year, 2024, I've decided to take control of my health narrative in a structured way, with guidance from the PN program and other resources to start to feel better physically and emotionally.

2024: The Year of Me

Why 2024? Because it's time. It's time to prioritize myself, to focus on what my body needs, and to explore the world of nutrition and wellness. I started this process by doing a kitchen cleanout just after New Year's day and then patiently waited for the Precision Nutrition program to start. For me, this program isn't just about losing weight or following a diet; it's about understanding nutrition, building sustainable habits, and nurturing my body in a way it deserves.

Why A Public Blog?

I debated making this blog public or keeping it private and decided that why not make it public? What can it hurt to have other people reading about my experiences. I know that when I read stories from other people that often I get insights as to what works and doesn't and what I might try to use for my own personal growth.

Also, I am using this platform as a way to journal vs a paper one as I have always had a difficult time starting journals or diaries in the past and continuing with them. My hope is that this daily writings, even though it is digital, will have the same cathartic experience of writing with a pen and paper. I do plan on starting a written diary at some point, I even bought a gorgeous leather bound one that is embossed on the cover, but I know that for now that is not where I am ready to be but I do want to keep track of what I am doing so that I can look back. I'm using tags to help me be able to quickly find things at a later date as well - which is harder to do with a paper journal.

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
