Day 108: Nurturing Motivation with the Three S's and Building Strengths

Welcome back to my daily blog! Today's lesson expanded on the concept of motivation by introducing three more S's that are crucial for maintaining momentum in our PN journey: satisfaction, success, and strengths. It was also an active recovery day, filled with physical and reflective activities.

Satisfaction from Progress

Today, I reflected on the progress I've made since starting the PN program. I listed achievements like feeling better overall, walking more confidently, making healthier choices, and seeing improvements in how my clothes fit. Recognizing and celebrating these victories is vital. It's easy to focus on the steep path ahead without acknowledging how far I've climbed. Today, I took a moment to feel proud of these accomplishments, using them as fuel to keep pushing forward, that's my inner cheerleader coming out saying good job!

Building on Success

Success breeds success. This part of the lesson reminded me to use my past achievements as a foundation for future goals. For example, if I've been consistent with my workouts, perhaps it's time to add another session each week - I'm not sure though because I am following the 3x a week for working out schedule and doing active recovery on the days off of that. Each success helps build my confidence and motivation.

Leveraging Strengths

Instead of dwelling on my weaknesses, today's lesson encouraged me to identify and build on my strengths. This approach is not only more enjoyable but also more effective. I've noticed that focusing on what I do well, such as maintaining a consistent workout schedule and adhering to the PN plate guidelines, makes me feel more competent and capable. I can see how the basic part of the program is that most important long term.

Reflective Questions and Personal Development

I asked myself where have I succeeded so far in this program? How can I further develop my strengths?

I recognized that my regular walking and adherence to workout schedules are strong points. To develop these strengths further, I'll continue focusing on eating slowly and understanding my fullness cues, a challenge I'm still mastering. It is interesting to me that I actually don't feel full, a bit alarming when I think too much about it, but I know it will come back to me the same way that feeling hungry has been.

Active Recovery and Garden Work

Besides the mental and motivational work, today was filled with physical activity. I took a refreshing walk with my dog by the lake and around the neighborhood. I also built a raised garden and filled it with soil - each bags weighed 18.1 kg (39.9 lbs) which I would not have been able to walk around with last year, and planted my blueberry bushes (both the ones from Costco and the ones that were in the ground but not growing well in the same spot before), which was a great way to engage my body and mind in a productive task.

Looking Ahead

This reflective practice and focus on building strengths will guide my actions as I continue with PN. Understanding that motivation can ebb and flow, I'm learning to rely on structured habits and a positive outlook to maintain my trajectory towards a healthier lifestyle.

Today reinforced the importance of celebrating progress, using my successes as stepping stones, and focusing on my strengths to propel me forward. Each day in this program brings me closer to becoming the best version of myself, and I'm excited to see where these strategies will take me next.

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
