Day 14: Self-Care and Planning Ahead on My Precision Nutrition Journey

An elegant scene depicting a lady in a serene, sunlit room, getting her long, wavy, auburn hair groomed by a standing woman. The seated lady, adorned with a delicate hair net and a relaxed expression, evokes a sense of nobility or Renaissance grace. Her gown is of a light, flowing fabric with lace details, contributing to the historical atmosphere. The interior has ornate, arched windows casting soft light, highlighting their intricate designs and the lush greenery of indoor plants. The scene suggests tranquility and the luxury of a bygone era.

Hello again, thanks for reading along my journey starting with Precision Nutrition for Women - Two weeks already!

Active Recovery and Connection

Today marked a unique blend of physical activity and personal connection. Opting for an active recovery day, I found myself on the treadmill, not in solitude, but in the company of a dear friend over the phone. This multitasking allowed me to maintain my fitness routine while catching up on life's unfolding stories. The morning's usual extended walk with my loyal canine companion was cut short due to time constraints. However, my son kindly stepped in, ensuring our furry family member enjoyed her exercise, seamlessly weaving the fabric of care and responsibility within our family.

Transform your rest days with active recovery—find out how.

A Touch of Self-Indulgence

In a delightful twist of self-care, I ventured to a new henna salon for a much-needed hair transformation. The decision to embrace henna was not just about covering the premature grays that have been my companions since 16 but also a conscious choice to avoid harsh chemicals. This salon, an hour's drive away, is a rare find that specializes in natural hair care, aligning perfectly with my preference for organic and gentle treatments. The result was nothing short of spectacular, rejuvenating not just my hair but my spirit, reminding me of the importance of occasionally indulging oneself.

One great thing about the location being so far is that is is close to my sister's house so I was able to stop in and share lunch with her (while wearing my henna in a hair wrap). Plus driving by myself for an hour each way is rare for me to have that much time alone these days.

Weekly Planning and Reflection

The Precision Nutrition program today emphasized the significance of planning for the week ahead, underscoring this practice as a cornerstone of our journey. Sundays are carved out not just for forward-looking planning but also for retrospection, offering a chance to revisit any lessons that might have slipped through the cracks. Having this day structured for flexibility provides a comforting safety net, ensuring that even if life's unpredictability leads us astray, there's always a path back to our learning journey.

Community and Inspiration

The program's Facebook group is turning out to be a wonderful community of like-minded individuals from across the globe, each on their unique journey yet connected by a common thread of self-improvement. I love that we are coming from so many different countries and backgrounds.

A thought-provoking quote shared by one of the coaches on Facebook, originally from writer Jenée Desmond-Harris, resonated deeply with me: dividing tasks into what I need to do, want to do, and what others expect of me. This simple yet profound strategy is a lesson in setting boundaries, prioritizing self-care, and the art of saying no, which is pivotal on this journey of health and wellness.

Evening Reflections

The day wrapped up with another walk, this time in the serene company of my son and our dog. This peaceful stroll was not just exercise but a precious opportunity for heartfelt conversation, away from the distractions of daily life. Timing our walk to ensure a calm and uninterrupted path, we savored each other's company, reinforcing the day's theme of connection, reflection, and planning ahead.

As I reflect on today's journey, the intertwining themes of self-care, planning, and community support stand out. Each element, from the treadmill walk to the henna salon visit and the evening walk, weaves into the larger tapestry of my precision nutrition journey, highlighting the importance of nurturing the body, mind, and soul.

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
