Day 107: My Inner Team and Adjusting Workout Schedules

Hi again! Today’s lesson introduced the concept of the "Inner Team" from the movie *Inside Out*, relating it to our personal health and fitness journeys. This exercise helped me identify the various "characters" inside my head that influence my behavior and motivation. I haven't seen the movie but the trailer they shared brought the concept home.

An engaging illustration featuring a group of seven original cartoon-style characters, each representing different aspects of holistic nutrition and health. The team includes The Cheerleader, vibrant and enthusiastic in colorful attire with pompoms; The Organizer, smartly dressed with glasses and a digital tablet; The Supportive Friend, comforting in pastel colors with open arms; The Adventurer, sporty and prepared with a hydration pack; The Pessimist, contemplative in subdued tones; The Critic, analytical with a critique pad and pen; and The Comfort Seeker, relaxing in casual clothes with a soft blanket and warm drink. Together, they form a dynamic and supportive ensemble, promoting a balanced approach to health and wellness.

Understanding My Inner Team

I spent some time today reflecting on my "Inner Team" members. I've recognized several helpful characters The Cheerleader, who celebrates my accomplishments. The Organizer, who reminds me to prepare for the day ahead. The Supportive Friend, who reassures me during tough times. The Adventurer, who is eager to try new exercises. However, I also have some less helpful members The Pessimist, who doubts my abilities. The Critic, who harshly judges my efforts. The Comfort Seeker, who resists new challenges.

Action Over Inspiration

One of the key takeaways from today’s lesson is that action often precedes motivation, not the other way around. By identifying and managing the roles these internal characters play, I can better sustain my motivation, even on days when it feels lacking. I keep feeling that this program is reading my mind with the timing of some of these lessons, action is what I need to be able to count on, especially around workouts this week.

Workout and Schedule Adjustments

Today was also a workout day. I've noticed a pattern this week of not managing to fit my workouts into my preferred times, often ending up exercising right before bed. While this isn't inherently bad, I feel better when I complete my workouts earlier. I plan to revisit my schedule to make adjustments for more consistent workout times. I feel like when I workout in the late morning I have more energy to complete them and before bed, it doesn't feel the same.

Missed Live Call and Gardening Adjustments

Unfortunately, I missed today’s live open office call due to an unexpectedly extended consult with a mum I am working with. Thankfully, these sessions are recorded, and I look forward to catching up as soon as the recording is available.

Meanwhile, I moved all my plants back to the greenhouse due to the cool daytime temperatures and cold nights that are forecast for the rest of the week. I'm hoping to set them out permanently by the end of the weekend as the weather improves.

Reflections and Looking Ahead

Reflecting on the "Inner Team" has been enlightening. It's a useful tool for understanding how different aspects of my personality affect my health journey. By consciously choosing which team members to listen to, I can keep making progress towards my goals. Tomorrow, I'll explore practical strategies to further boost my motivation and ensure that my actions align with my long-term objectives. Go team!

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
