Day 98: Embracing PN-Friendly Meals and Celebrating Health Milestones

Hello, everyone! Today marks the introduction of a new habit in our PN program—focusing on PN-friendly meals, which synthesize our learnings about lean proteins, veggies, smart carbs, and fats into a comprehensive approach to eating.

Structured Learning and Balanced Meals

The lesson today was split into two levels, and I'm starting at level one, which feels just right for where I'm at currently. We reviewed what constitutes a PN-friendly meal, and I'm happy to report that my typical meals, like omelets with veggies and sprouted grain toast, are on track. After tracking my food over the weekend, I noticed a balanced 1:1:1:1 ratio when I look at the total day, though there's always room for improvement for each meal and yesterday I only had 4 servings of veggies.

The shared examples of meals and a simple chili recipe, which I'm excited to try out instead of buying ready-made from the deli but I need to tweak it a bit with black beans instead of kidney beans. My focus going forward will be on preparing most of my meals at home and continuing to use the tracking sheet to see how balanced I am. I'm not putting any pressure on anything, this is all about just checking with me and my day.

Reflections from My Physical

Today also included my annual physical, where I received positive feedback on my progress. I shared about the PN program and its benefits, like better sleep and reduced IBS symptoms. My doctor was particularly pleased about my significant waist and hip measurements reduction—over 10 cm lost, which indicates a healthy reduction in visceral fat. The loss of over 10 pounds was another highlight I was proud to discuss.

We did talk about sleep a lot today, that was a bit surprising as I don't remember talking about sleep before with them. I don't think I snore but I can see on my Fitbit that my sleep score, oxygen levels, etc. fluctuate overnight. We agreed it is likely because my Fitbit is loose but if I wanted to check and see I could tape it for a week. Something to think about.

Adjustments at Home

I took a break from muzzle training today to rearrange our living space, creating a less crowded and more comfortable environment for my dog. She's still adjusting to the changes, but it's important for her comfort and stress levels. It was amusing to see one of our cats claiming the newly relocated crate as a nap spot! My dog was not amused with that as her favorite toy was in there! Thankfully my cats love treats so I shook the treat bag and my dog ran in and grabbed her pig and put it on her pillow to be safe with the other ones.

Gardening and Weather

The mixed weather of rain and sunshine has kept me from doing much with my outdoor plants, but they're doing well enough without needing to be moved to the greenhouse. I'm also hopeful that the recent rains will help the grass seeds take root without needing additional watering.

Back to Workouts

Today's workout brought me back to the first day of what I'm calling phase two that I had last Monday as well. I appreciate the program's structure, repeating exercises to perfect our technique and introducing new ones to keep things interesting. It’s motivating to see progress and feel the benefits of a well-rounded fitness routine.

Thank you for joining me on this day of health, home adjustments, and holistic living. Here’s to continued growth and learning in every aspect of our lives!

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
