Day 78: Embracing the Inner Grown-Up and Breaking the Overeating Chain

The image depicts a dramatic scene where links in a metal chain are being forcefully shattered. Amidst a haze of debris and sparks, each link breaks apart under significant pressure, capturing a moment of intense liberation. The focus is tightly on the breaking chain, with the background kept deliberately simple to highlight the action. The visual effects of sparks flying and fragments scattering enhance the sense of movement and destruction, embodying a powerful release from constraint. Used to illustrate binge eating worksheet

Hooked by Humor: Engaging Lesson Titles

Today's lesson, humorously titled

Help! I need a grownup!

perfectly illustrates how this program cleverly engages us from the get-go. The daily emails with these themed titles are not just amusing; they're effective at drawing us in, sparking curiosity, and ensuring we're eager to dive into the day's content.

A Tool for Mindfulness - The Behaviour Awareness Worksheet

Reintroduced in today's lesson was the invaluable worksheet designed to help break the chain of overeating. This tool, familiar from earlier in the program, has already proven useful to me, serving as a structured way to reflect on the events leading up to, during, and after episodes of overeating. By dissecting these moments through a series of probing questions, I've begun to recognize patterns and underlying causes of my overeating behaviors.

The type of question cover where you are, who is with you, what you are feeling physically and emotionally, why did you choose that specific food or foods to eat, how you feel when eating those foods in that moment, how you feel after you finish eating.

Unraveling My Overeating Episodes

Utilizing the worksheet, I've traced one of my own overeating episodes, from the stress and frustration felt hours before, to the momentary joy of indulgence, and the subsequent feelings of guilt and shame. This reflective process is more than just an exercise; it's a profound journey into the psychology of my eating habits, revealing the emotional and situational triggers that lead to overeating.

The Psychology of Eating: Understanding and Acceptance

What this program has illuminated for me is the critical role of psychology in our eating behaviors. Recognizing why I reach for certain foods, even when they don't align with my health goals, and learning that it's okay to indulge occasionally without derailing my progress, are pivotal insights. The journey to breaking the overeating chain is as much about understanding these psychological underpinnings as it is about modifying behavior.

Active Recovery and Continued Progress with My Dog

On an active recovery day, a peaceful morning walk to the lake with my dog offered not just physical respite but emotional renewal. Observing her calm demeanor amidst potential triggers was heartening, suggesting progress in overcoming her past traumatic experiences. Additionally, embracing targeted recovery techniques like using a foam roller has been instrumental in addressing the physical demands of my evolving workout routine.

How active recovery enhances your recovery process.

A Shift in Habits with Take Out

An early morning outing presented an opportunity to practice mindful eating. Choosing to bring our Starbucks breakfast home, plating it, and sitting down to enjoy it with an orange, rather than eating on the go, marked a significant shift in my habits. This conscious choice to savor my meal, reflecting on the program's teachings, highlights a broader transformation in my approach to food and nutrition.

Live Session 2 Themes in 1

Today's live session was more of a workshop style where we were presented with information and then given time to workshop the questions on our own and come back and talk about those. It was split in half with the first half being around Identity asking questions like what kind of person would I say I am today? What kind of person do I want to become? How could you start living as if you were that person?

The second half was all about the dial method of the program. How pressing pause or stopping while waiting for whatever caused that interruption to be over isn't likely going to have progress. Instead focus on the dial method, level one should be doable for pretty much every day but when we workshopped it, there were times I can think of that I am closer to a 10 then a 1 and other people felt the same so that was a great chat - go us!

I'm glad that they put these two together, I was a bit confused at first when I read the description but it was clear how they complement each other.

Dials were first introduced on day 26

Reflections on a Day of Growth and Learning

Day 78 has been a day of introspection, learning, and meaningful change. From the moment of engagement with the day's lesson to the deliberate practice of mindful eating, each aspect of the day has contributed to my journey towards a healthier, more mindful lifestyle. Understanding the psychology behind my eating habits, coupled with active recovery and continued progress in my dog's behavior, underscores the holistic nature of this program. As I move forward, armed with tools like the overeating worksheet and a deeper understanding of my behaviors, I'm increasingly confident in my ability to navigate the complexities of nutrition and wellness.

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
