Day 76: Milestones, Learning, and Personal Reflections

Celebrating Progress: 10 Pounds Lighter

Today marks a significant milestone in my journey, as I've officially lost 10 pounds since beginning this program. While my rings still don't fit, I feel like I could have gotten my engagement ring over the knuckle today but likely that's it so stopped pressing as I didn't want to get it stuck. This is a reminder of the long road ahead but that first 10 lbs lost is still a wonderful achievement is a testament to the dedication and effort I've put into improving my health and fitness. The absence of a specific weight at which my rings fit doesn't dampen the joy of this accomplishment; instead, it motivates me to continue working toward my goals.

Fitting Into New Clothes: A Tangible Reward

An active recovery day spent at the lake under the sunny 10°C weather was made even more special with a personal victory: fitting into a size large pair of track pants from Eddie Bauer. This was a significant moment, as it meant moving down a size, acknowledging the physical changes my body has undergone. The necessity to try a smaller size arose from my previous pants beginning to slip, an annoyance but also a clear indicator of progress. This triumph in clothing size is not just about the numbers on the tag but about the journey and the work behind it.

Nutritional Habituation: Expanding Knowledge

Though today was devoid of formal lessons, a live session on Nutritional Habituation led by one of the coaches provided profound insights into our relationship with food. This concept, new to me, was presented as a potential game-changer in how we perceive and interact with food.

The coach's recommendation of Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Secrets of Feeding a Healthy Family by Ellyn Satter has prompted me to explore these resources further, eagerly awaiting their arrival to deepen my understanding. I have ordered both of these books and look forward to reading through them as the idea of Nutritional Habituation explains a lot.

Tracking Beyond Weight: Sleep, Emotion, and Clothing

Aside from weight, I'm monitoring sleep quality, emotional regulation, my energy levels, how quickly I can recover from exercise and, of course, how my clothes fit as indicators of progress. The decision to not immediately invest in new tops—given their forgiving nature in size—and the anticipation of possibly needing new capris for summer highlight a practical approach to navigating these changes.

Donating Too Big Clothes

Donating clothes that no longer fit felt incredibly liberating, a physical act of letting go of the past and embracing the future. I can't wait until I am able to donate that ones that I bought this week too!

Yoga and Walking the Dog

I really felt that I needed to stretch this morning so did a quick search on YouTube and grabbed a 20 minute yoga session. Of course, like every day, my dog needs her walks so off to the lake we went this morning with my son and then did a few more around the neighbourhood. I like how both the yoga and the walking the dog counts as active recovery as it is a reminder that each step forward is building success.

The transformative power of active recovery—start your journey.

Seeking Understanding and Support

Sharing my 10-pound weight loss and the purchase of the recommended books with family members didn't elicit the response I hoped for. Despite their lack of understanding due to differing experiences with weight, I had hoped for more support. A dismissive comment about the value of reading and discussing nutritional habits over simply "eating less" was disheartening. Yet, this journey is mine, and while external validation is comforting, my progress and the knowledge I gain are for my benefit.

Reflecting on a Day of Mixed Emotions

Day 76 has been a mix of celebration, learning, and personal reflections. Each aspect of today—from recognizing the physical changes manifested in new clothing sizes to embracing new concepts like Nutritional Habituation—contributes to my holistic health journey.

The lack of understanding from family serves as a reminder that this path, though sometimes lonely, is profoundly personal and filled with growth. As I continue, I draw strength from my accomplishments and the supportive community within the program, ready to face the challenges and joys ahead.

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
