Day 44: A Journey of Discovery and Plant-Based Proteins

Welcome back to my holistic daily blog!

Diving Deeper into Protein Sources

The focus of today's lesson was particularly enlightening, delving into the world of plant-based proteins. It's fascinating to learn about the protein content in vegetables I consume regularly, like broccoli and mushrooms, without much thought about their nutritional value in this regard. This exploration into plant proteins is not just educational but also timely, as it aligns with the current habit we're incorporating into our routines: increasing protein intake at every meal with an emphasis on variety and balance.

An Unusual Active Recovery Day

Today's active recovery deviated from the usual routine of a morning walk by the lake with my dog. Instead, we embarked on a different kind of journey, one that involved a car ride to a consult for laparoscopic spaying. The trip, while necessary, was unexpectedly draining for my furry companion, leading us to postpone our normal outdoor activity to the afternoon. When we finally set out for our walk at the lake, we were greeted by an unseasonably warm 16°C weather, a delightful change that made our rescheduled outing even more enjoyable.

Valuable Insights from the Zoom Call

The Zoom call today on this new habit was an invaluable component of the day's learning. Hearing firsthand how others are navigating the challenge of adding more protein to their diets, especially from plant sources, was both inspiring and informative. The discussion around beans and legumes, protein powders, and animal proteins was rich with shared experiences and tips. I was particularly grateful for the coach's advice on increasing water intake alongside the consumption of more beans to mitigate potential digestive discomfort as I had not heard that before. Truthfully, I am not fond of beans, and neither is my hubby and son, but I am happy to try and increase them into my diet - I'm starting with chili from the deli as I do like the flavour of chili. This practical tip of extra water, along with the reminder to introduce beans gradually and chew them thoroughly, underscores the program's holistic approach to nutrition and well-being.

Reflections on Today's Learnings

Today has been a day of adaptation and learning. The shift in my active recovery routine with my dog at the lake served as a reminder that flexibility is key to maintaining balance and well-being. Meanwhile, the lesson on plant-based proteins has opened up a new avenue of nutritional awareness for me, encouraging a more thoughtful approach to meal planning and preparation. The Zoom call, as always, provided a sense of community and shared purpose, reinforcing the idea that this journey is not just about individual transformation but also about learning from and supporting each other.

As I reflect on today's experiences and insights, I'm reminded of the importance of being open to new information and willing to adjust habits and routines as needed. The journey to better health is multifaceted, encompassing not just physical activity and nutrition but also the willingness to engage, learn, and grow. Today's focus on plant-based proteins, in particular, has added another layer to my understanding of a balanced diet, one that I look forward to exploring further in the days to come.

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
