Embarking on a Journey of Wellness: Day One of Precision Nutrition

In this image, we see a woman in a casual gray top, with her hair tied back in a high ponytail, engaging in her oral hygiene routine. She's using an electric toothbrush to clean her teeth. The setting is a bright, airy bathroom with a clear window allowing natural light to spill in. The woman's profile is gentle and concentrated, illustrating a moment of daily self-care. The image captures the intersection of modern living with personal wellness practices.

Hello, dear readers!

Today marks a significant milestone in my journey towards better health and fitness. I've officially embarked on the Precision Nutrition program, and I'm thrilled to share my experiences with you right from day one. I am planning on blogging each day, presuming that I am not on holiday, so that I can not only have a record to refer to, but to share the experience with you as well.

A Warm Welcome

The day started with a heartwarming personal note from one of my coaches, welcoming me to the program. They explained that in some lessons there is a level one and level two option and for me I should stick to level one. This is interesting as I had not read about that on any other online reviews. I'm happy to start at level one. I wonder if this is why there are people back for a second year to do level two? It's always encouraging to have support right from the start, and this personalized touch added an extra layer of motivation for me.

Setting Goals and Understanding the 'Why'

One of the key aspects of today was diving into some introspective questions. We were asked to articulate our short-term and long-term fitness goals, and more importantly, to explore our reasons for embarking on this journey now. This exercise wasn't just about setting targets; it was about understanding our deeper motivations and laying a solid foundation for sustainable change. I really liked how there wasn't the standard this is how much I weigh and this is my goal weight or target weight. I want this to be about the whole me, not just a number on the scale.

Choosing My First Habit: A Splash of Learning

For the next two weeks, we've been tasked with picking and sticking to a new habit that is simple, goes along with our holistic wellness goals and should take maybe five minutes. My choice? Using my new Waterpik flosser. Recommended by my dentist just last week, this little gadget is already proving to be a learning curve – and a slightly messy one at that!

My first attempt ended up with water sprayed all over the mirror, sink, and yes, my shirt. A quick tip for fellow beginners: YouTube tutorials are your best friend when it comes to mastering the Waterpik flosser.

No Set Exercises, But Making My Own Waves

Although there were no specific exercises assigned for today, I took it upon myself to keep active. I chose the rowing machine option on my Bowflex Revolution machine. It was an exhilarating session that certainly got my heart rate up. However, it came with its own lesson: my Fitbit needs extra protection during such workouts. After accidentally knocking it out of position with my exercise gloves, it didn't track all my minutes - I'm going to cover it with the gloves in future sessions to keep in place when I do this type of exercise and will be keeping an eye out to see if it happens again.

Clarifying My Fitness and Size Goals

As I delve deeper into the Precision Nutrition program, it's essential to have clear, defined goals. Here's a closer look at what I'm aiming for in both the short and long term.

Short-Term Exercise Goals: Building Daily Routines

One of my immediate goals is to establish a consistent exercise routine. While I adore walking my dog (and wish it counted more for exercise!), I recognize the need for a bit more structured activity every day. For me it's about creating a habit that goes beyond the casual stroll and integrates more deliberate forms of exercise into my daily life.

Long-Term Exercise Goals: Enjoying the Journey with My Dog

Looking ahead, my vision is to enjoy our family forest walks without feeling winded by the end of them. I want to be confident in my fitness level, knowing I'm doing everything I can to stay as healthy and fit as possible. It's not just about the physical aspect; it's about dedicating time for myself, exploring a variety of fitness activities to maintain this newfound wellness.

Short-Term Size Goals: A Symbolic Milestone

On a more personal note, a short-term size goal of mine is to get my fingers small enough to wear my engagement ring again. This isn't just about size; it's a symbolic milestone that represents my journey towards better health. I definitely do not want to have a target clothing size goal. In the past I have had those get into this pair of pants but I have tossed all the clothes that don't fit me and plan on doing the same as I progress through this journey.

Long-Term Size Goals: Confidence and Participation

In the long run, I aspire to walk into any store and comfortably try on clothes from the standard size section as I have in the past. It is difficult for me to go shopping right now knowing that a lot of stores won't have anything my size or thinking that something will fit but then it doesn't when I bring it to the change groom. More importantly, I want to eliminate any fears of being too large to participate in fun activities with my family. It's about gaining the confidence to live life fully and without constraints.

Beyond the Scale: A Shift in Perspective

Interestingly, I've moved away from setting a specific weight goal this year. Even last year, I had a number in mind, but now, I realize the insignificance of that number. As long as I'm fit, healthy, and happy, the scale doesn't define my success. This shift in perspective feels liberating and truly amazing to write about.

Reflections and Anticipations

As I wrap up day one, I'm filled with a sense of accomplishment and eagerness. The journey ahead is not just about physical fitness; it's about learning, adapting, and growing. I'm looking forward to sharing more of my experiences, the challenges I face, and the victories I celebrate.

These goals are not just aspirations; they're stepping stones on a path to a healthier, more fulfilling life. As I progress through the Precision Nutrition program, I'm excited to see these goals evolve and materialize into reality.

Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative journey!

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
