Day 3: Precision Nutrition Blog Post - Embracing the Journey of Change

Welcome back to my daily wellness journey! Today's lesson was another dive into ourselves using their  Assessing Readiness: The "Ready, Willing, and Able" Questionnaire.

Change, as Precision Nutrition often emphasizes, is indeed a skill. Like any skill, it requires time, patience, and practice to master. This resonates deeply with me, as I view my health and fitness journey as a marathon, not a sprint. Each small step is a part of a larger, more enjoyable path.

The Five-Day Habit Example: Bringing the Gym Home

While Precision Nutrition suggests checking out the local gym as a potential five-day habit, my circumstances led me to bring the gym home. Due to family health concerns, especially pre-COVID, we've been cautious about immune systems and exposure. This decision has led to a gradual build-up of our home gym equipment, aligning with our commitment to health and safety.

Sticking to My Chosen Habit: The Waterpik Journey

I've decided to stick with using my Waterpik as my two-week habit. It's wonderful to see the variety of habit suggestions from Precision Nutrition, and while I'm focused on my current choice, I'm open to considering others in the future.

Today's Exercise: Upper Body Assessment

Today's focus was on assessing upper body positions, range of motion, and shoulder movements. I realized the importance of having a mirror (or video recording) to observe my form. Luckily, our double mirrored closet door served the purpose well. I appreciate that they gave options like use a wall to help with the assessment instead of needing to be able to do a pushup as I'm not there yet. It was comforting to see that they are focused on form to help prevent any injuries and to help get a picture of where I am to help me focus on where I am today.

A focused woman in activewear is caught mid-exercise, holding a plank position on a fitness mat. Her pose is strong and stable, indicating physical strength and concentration. The setting is a modern, well-lit room that blends homeliness with minimalism, characterized by neutral tones, plants, and elegant decor. A curious cat sits beside her, its gaze fixed on her, adding a touch of warmth and companionship to the scene. The reflection in the mirror duplicates the image, creating a rhythmic pattern and amplifying the feeling of space. This is a moment of personal challenge and self-care, encapsulating the balance between discipline in exercise and the comfort of home.
A Surprising Discovery: The Plank Achievement

The most intriguing part of today's assessment involved transitioning from kneeling to a plank position. Despite my initial doubts, I successfully held a plank, something I haven't done in a long time. This achievement is a testament to the subtle improvements from my recent exercises on the Bowflex, particularly in strengthening my abs. It's a significant win for me, highlighting the progress I've made.

Reflection: The Importance of Personalized Fitness

This journey with Precision Nutrition is teaching me the value of personalizing fitness to one's circumstances and abilities. Whether it's adapting exercises to a home setting or choosing habits that fit into our unique lives, the key is to find what works for us individually. Today's session not only provided physical insights but also reinforced the importance of celebrating every victory, no matter how small, on this long-term journey to better health.

Today's Fitness Update: Embracing Flexibility in My Routine

This week, my Precision Nutrition isn't assigning any specific workouts, offering me the freedom to choose my activities. After enjoying a refreshing second walk with my dog, I decided to add an extra dose of fitness to my day. I hopped on the recumbent bike for an invigorating 25-minute session. This spontaneous choice not only boosted my energy but also reminded me of the joy in mixing up my routine. It's these unplanned, flexible moments in fitness that keep the journey exciting and uniquely mine. Staying active doesn't always require a structured plan. Sometimes, it's about seizing the moment and enjoying the movement!

*Remember, change is a journey, not a destination. Each step, each discovery, is a part of the beautiful process of becoming the best version of ourselves.*

Day 24: Valentine's Reflections and Embracing Every Moment

Welcome back, followers of well-being! A Surprising Lesson on Binge Eating Valentine's Day brought with it an unexpected lesson from the program, focusing on the concept of binge eating. The lesson didn't delve into definitions but rather suggested an intriguing approach: if binge eating occurs, do it slowly and without any guilt. For those who don't experience binge eating, the guidance was to maintain the practice of eating slowly throughout the day. This perspective offers a unique lens on mindfulness and self-compassion, encouraging us to be present and intentional with our eating habits, regardless of the situation. The Continual Growth Through Meditation Today's workout seamlessly blended meditation with walking, a combination that has become a cherished part of my routine. The guided meditations, each building upon the last one, have become a source of solace and anticipation. Their evolving nature keeps me engaged and hopeful that they'll remain a cornerston...

Day 27: Braving the Cold and Envisioning the Future

A Chilly Start to the Day Today's active recovery day took us back to the familiar yet frosty surroundings of the lake, with temperatures dipping to -15°C. Despite bundling up, the biting wind made our 20-minute walk more challenging than usual. The vast openness of the lake's paths and parks, usually a source of tranquility, today amplified the cold. To compensate for the lack of zone minutes on my Fibtbit, I added a 25-minute rowing session on my Bowflex Revolution in the afternoon, following a snow shoveling session under the watchful eye of my dog. Our day concluded with another walk after dinner, maintaining our routine despite the cold. Active recovery decoded and why you need it. Looking Ahead: The Maintenance Phase Today's lesson shifted our focus to the future, specifically the maintenance phase post-program. It outlined the gradual build-up of habits that will eventually become second nature, requiring no conscious effort to maintain. The lesson encouraged us to e...

Day 5 of Precision Nutrition Coaching: Transforming Desires into Actions

Welcome back, to all my readers! Today marked the fifth day of my journey with the Precision Nutrition (PN) Coaching program and like each day before, it was truly educational. The central theme of today's lesson was about transforming our "I don't wants" into "I do wants," a powerful shift in mindset that propels us from passive wishing to active doing. Flipping the Script: From "Don't" to "Do" It's easy to get caught in the trap of saying things like, "I don't want to be out of shape." However, this approach is often unproductive. Today's lesson taught me to reframe these thoughts into positive affirmations. Instead of focusing on what I don't want, I'm learning to focus on what I do want, like being in better shape. This simple flip in wording makes a significant difference in how I approach my goals. Vision Boards and Letters to the Future The course also introduced some creative tools to visualize an...
