Hi everyone! Today's lesson focused on the value of food tracking and how our journals serve as tools for learning and growth rather than sources of judgment.
The Importance of Food Tracking
Reviewing my photo food journal is quite revealing in my nutrition habits in only a few short days. I'm not going worry about it, this is a process and I am just getting information. That being said, this reflection is crucial, as it helps identify areas needing improvement without self-criticism. Our journals are simply data collection tools, helping us understand our eating patterns better.
Purposeful Mistakes for Learning
Today's experiment encouraged me to deliberately make a "mistake" and record it. This approach teaches us that mistakes are opportunities for learning and growth. Observing how these choices impact us provides valuable insights for future decisions. This one was easy for me, I had frozen yogurt with bananas, peanuts and maple syrup for a snack.
Highlighting Successes
In addition to recognizing mistakes, it's vital to celebrate our successes. Identifying and reinforcing positive behaviors keeps us motivated. For example, if I've consistently eaten meals to satisfaction, I can continue to build on that success. I have had a few meals that I have leftover food lately, which is surprising. I am trying to check in halfway through my meals with myself to see if I am still hungry. I also can happily say that I am doing much better in terms staying hydrated and I am waiting to see if I feel hungry before eating as much as I can and noticing more physical sensations in my stomach that let me know it is time to eat.
Workout and Food Journal Updates
Today was a workout day, and I continue to enjoy my bodyweight and resistance band exercises. I found the current resistance levels challenging but manageable.
I'm also continuing with photo tracking for my food journal, capturing images before and after meals. My husband brought home a turkey and veggie sub from Subway, and by eating slowly, I found myself full after half, saving the rest for tomorrow. Even a few weeks ago, I would have eaten the full sub because it was there. This method helps me stay mindful and accurately track my portions and satiety.
Moving Forward
Today's lesson was a reminder to approach food tracking with curiosity and openness. By treating our journals as tools for learning, we can navigate our PN journey with greater self-awareness and resilience. Here’s to learning from our mistakes, celebrating our successes, and continuously improving!
