A Productive Start to Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday began with an invigorating long walk around the neighborhood with my dog, setting a peaceful tone for a day filled with activity and family time. Surprisingly, the vacuuming session contributed an unexpected 30 minutes of cardio to my day, as recorded by my Fitbit, underscoring the value of incorporating movement into everyday tasks. We share who does the housework and vacuuming hasn't been on my to do list for a while. This type of exercise is Non-exercise activity thermogenesis, or NEAT. NEAT refers to the energy expended for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating, or sports-like exercise. It includes the calories we burn from our daily activities that are not considered planned physical exercise like walking to work, typing, vacuuming, performing yard work, or even fidgeting.
Culinary Preparations for Family Dinner
The centerpiece of today's Easter celebration was the preparation of two prime rib roasts using sous vide—a meticulous 8+ hour process that allowed for precise temperature control for both rare and medium preferences and for those who wanted well done, after I had seared both roasts slicing some pieces and sticking them into the oven while the rest of the roast were being carved was the perfect solution. This method, coupled with my dual sous vide setup, ensured a perfect outcome for our holiday dinner.
Commitment to Colorful Fruits and Veggies
Today's meals vividly illustrated my ongoing commitment to integrating a diverse array of fruits and vegetables into my diet. From a nutrient-packed breakfast omelette to a vibrant charcuterie board and a vegetable-rich dinner, each meal was thoughtfully designed to exceed the five servings goal. Opting for fresh strawberries, blueberries, and angel food cake as a lighter dessert alternative allowed for a delightful close to the meal without straying from my wellness objectives. Everyone was surprised that we didn't have an assortment of pies, but everyone seemed to enjoy this option too.
Reflective Insights and Future Goals
Today's lesson provided a moment for introspection and planning, encouraging a reflection on the week's efforts towards vegetable consumption and the strategies employed to navigate challenges. My consistent incorporation of vegetables into every meal, creative solutions to family meal dynamics, and the initiation of home-grown green onions represent significant achievements in my journey towards a healthier lifestyle.
Looking ahead, I plan to expand my home gardening efforts and continue leveraging fresh produce deliveries to maintain a steady supply of nutritious options. The anticipation of delving deeper into carbohydrate consumption in the coming weeks adds an exciting dimension to my nutritional exploration.
Reflections on Easter Sunday and Beyond
Day 70 has been a harmonious blend of celebration, active recovery, and thoughtful preparation for the journey ahead. The day's activities—from the serene morning walk to the meticulous preparation of a holiday feast—reflect a balanced approach to health and wellness that values both physical activity and nutritional richness. The insights gained from today's reflections and the support from the Precision Nutrition program continue to guide my path toward a more informed, health-conscious lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, mindfulness, and continuous learning in the pursuit of holistic well-being.
